I have a 150G reef tank that is 72"x20"x24" with a huge center brace (probably takes up 1/3 in the center of tank). I have a pump in my sump pushing water through a 1" pvc line up the back that goes around the top of my tank with 12 outlets for the water. I would like to get something that would create a wave effect for the tank. I have looked at the tunze wavebox and the wave 2 K. If the wave 2k mounts in the center would it fit under the brace or does it have to hang over the rim of tank? anybody got any suggestions for getting the wave effect?

what do you have the swcd hooked up to? Does it create a lot of water flow? I got to see a tunze wavebox about two weeks ago at a fish store in birmingham, Al. It was on a 360G I think it was really cool to see.

A SCWD will hardly allow more than 900gph through its 1/2" ports, and with alot of back-pressure at that.

For a 150, this is hardly enough. The list of possible wave making devices for a 150 would include the Wave2K, but better solutions would be...

1. TUNZE streams on a multicontroller, expensive, but low wattage and high flow and quality.
2. TUNZE wavebox, which doesnt create flow so much as a pulse or wave effect in the water.
3. Oceansmotions.com ...youll see for yourself. Great stuff.

As for the 2k, last I remember, it needs clearance above the tank for the motor which isnt submerged, but sticks out the top. This could be an issue with a centerbrace. FWIW, I think there are better solutions.

6. DIY. Carlson surge systems, dump buckets, actuator valve assemblies and DIY manifolds like the one weatherson made >>> http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=722713

I would use SCWD, then can clogged very easy, and they cannot be opened for cleaning. I had to throw mines out

um, care to rephrase that? You suggest SCWDs then point out they have problems? I use one SCWD...an oddball that just happens to never stop, but beyond that, I stay away.

I would not use a SCWD, they can clogged very easy, and they cannot be opened for cleaning. I had to throw mines out

Go with an oceans motions unit. They are sweet....scwds are cheap and do work, but are proned to failure and cause huge flow losses.

I have an oceansmotions 4-way and am very happy with it. I've got mine set up on a closed loop but I'm sure you can use it on your main return. I've used an scwd in the past and wasn't happy with the flow restriction. JMO.
