looking for a wavemaker with softstart for my tunze nanostream 6025, seio 620, and hydor #3

recommendations?

No ideas for you on a wavemaker, but I was curious how you liked the tunze and hydor. I was looking to change the powerheads in my tank and was looking at both as options. I really liked the hydor's price point, but was a bit disappointed with how big it was.

I have a redsea wavemaster pro for my maxijets. It comes with the so called "softstart" feature, but I wonder how much of that is marketing gimmick?

i had a redsea wavemaker as well, no good with the tunze or hydor. made too much noise starting up. it was really annoying.

the tunze is nice, i think they worked out most of the bugs so buy new. the hydors run well but are bigger.

I would spend the extra $$$ and get the nanostream if size is a concern

Look at the Tunze controller or the Seio controller. Both use the power down vs. shut off approach. Hydor is supposedly coming out with the same thing some time as well.

The Seio controller is the only one I know that throttles pumps back, but not all the way off. I sure hope it works, because I just bought one for my Koralias...

definitely not soft starting. I burned up my K1's and Maxi-mods on my ACJr. You want a controller that powers down the pumps, not turns them all the way off. The Seio Controller and the Tunze controller are the only two that I know of that are out right now.. like I said, Hydor is supposed to be coming out with one for their Koralias.

Depending on how old the power strip is, older ones did not offer soft start. I am running maxijets on soft start and I never hear them turn on/off. I used to hear them clunk on/off when they werent on soft start. However, nothing will stop those damned hydors from clunking except a seio controller.
