WAY OT! -- seth16

From what I gather.......someone or several someone(s) found him irresistable. Oh, and also his $80/hr candy selling job that beats my college degree. LOL. So this is just adding to his ego, I'm sure.

Opportunities for a free college degree

Opportunities for a free college degree

Humor is what alot of us need at times. Oh, and FYI, if you ARE serious about getting a college degree, I don't know how you feel about the medical field, but there are companies that pay 100% of your college tuition to become a Registered Nurse. The ones I know of immediately off hand are the Hemodialysis clinics. They start you off as a Dialysis Technician with about 8-10 weeks training (no college needed). After about 6 months (depends on company) you are eligible for repayment of each quarter you attend college at 100% repayment from the company you work for each quarter. And again, depending on the company, all that is required for repayment is a 2 year commitment to them after you pass your nursing boards. You must maintain a grade of C or better in each class to get 100% reimbursement. But this is a great way to get a college degree FREE! And once you have put your time in........I don't know too many jobs that have a 2 year college degree that pay more than a travelling nursing job (that is where you take asignments anywhere all over the US for 13 weeks or less, and they pay you an average of $40-$50/hr or more, depending on the area you select. This is also a great way to see the US for free with no long term commitments. I will be doing this as soon as my kids are grown and out of the house. Just some info for you. The nursing field is so diverse, you can change specialties whenever you need a change without going back to college for another degree.
:D

OH yes, if you study to be a nurse, you will never be withouht a job, or at least you can find one anywhere. I never knew of that, if you could get me some more information on that or at least point me in the right dircetion of where to look into this, that would be great.

The Dialysis clinic nearest you would be either Gambro Healthcare (just got bought by DaVita, but still has the Gambro sign out front) which is located on John Young Pkwy in Kissimmee. Make a left off 192 and it is on the right as you go through the first light.

The other one closest to you is DaVita in Hunter's Creek area. It is off S. Town Loop Blvd. Going North on John Young Pkwy, you make a right onto S. Town Loop Blvd, as soon as you make a right, you make the first right you can which is in an office blding complex. Their unit is on the bottom floor right in the middle. Takes up 4 doors I think, so you can't miss it. LOL.

You will need to graduate before they hire you, so keep that in mind. I think you have to be 18 or older, but I could be wrong. Never hurts to get your foot in the door first to let them know you are interested, and when you will graduate, and when you could start, ect. Good Luck!

There are other companies but they are in Orlando and further out cities. The biggest company is Fresenius Medical Care, but they are in Orlando near Winter Park.

One great benefit I forgot to mention is that last time I worked for them, just starting off as a new employee you get 5 or 6 weeks paid vacation your first year. I haven't found that anywhere else, ever! You start earning it your 1st day, and you can start using it after 90 days. That was a perk no other nursing jobs have come close to matching.

that is very interesting 1SLapNuts, i will look into that, thank you for the push in the right direction

If you have other medical questions, I might be able to help out, too. Yes, nurses are always in high demand! Of course, the work they do is demanding as well, but there are plenty of opportunities. And not just in nursing, but there are many other areas of medicine that need technicians and specialists.

Or perhaps you should look into marketing/sales - seems you've already found one of your strengths.

I for one, loved college. It's a formative time, and a hell of a lot of fun. ;)

Wow I am finding this thread so late! I need to hang out with the locals more ;p

Seth I am in college now so maybe I can help pitch in with my experience - I came here on a full scholarship but persued engineering - not easy! Eng kicked my butt and scholarship faded away but I am still plugging because I love it. The challenge is awesome. I think people are capable of doing ANYTHING if they feel in their heart that its really what they want to do. And if you end up getting a degree and get bored? Well just go back and do something different!

I personally would like to work for a while and then "Retire" and do something like what Marcye does for a living- I love animals that much im like, *** am i doing studying this stuff?

One thing that *really* helped me financially was the FAFSA. You can see it at fafsa.gov i think. It is government aid that looks at your status as an individual - do you depend on your family, how much money do you make on paper (your job.. i have no idea how it figures into it!) and they evaluate your "worth" as an individual and will give you free federal grants if they deem you a worthy investment. Money for free you don thave to pay back! That plus my scholarship is what helped me live until I met my now husband who so kindly subsidizes my education and aquarium addiction :)

If you can study anything.. its nice. being on a campus- like social hour! If you have a lot of self discipline it can be easy! There are things to study that wont quickly get you jobs- english, philosophy, physics (unless you get your phd sorta thing) and there are others that youc an excel in easily! Anything medical or legal- we'll always be hurting ourselves - or others, and in the case of others need a lawyer or law professional to help!

Tech jobs are popular and the orlando area is growing in them but we are fighting tooth and nail for our jobs to not be exported to cheap labor countries overseas.

I think just follow what you'd like in your heart - be it a nurse, forensic specialist or even school teacher- and everything inbetween - I decided what I wanted to do by eliminating the jobs I thought I'd be really bored with.

Hope this helps! And if you ever wanna talk tanks - any of you locals :) send me a pm! I'm an addict and can't stop wanting things to go in my tank!

OMG, i know, i spent on average $120 a month on my last GF, and im job-less (no, i didnt not kill anybody for the money)

LOL, thats nothing, wait till you get engaged or worse married! then you wish you were only spending $120 a month! :eek1:

thats a long ways a way i hope........ and maybe i can find a wife that it as devoted to aquariums as i am, and when i am "spending money" for her, it is really for aquarium stuff that she wants to get so that the tank will look better.....lol....im m y dreams

See seth, you already thinking in the right direction...get a girl that you can spend money on that still counts for spending money on yourself. lol.

haha, what i'm doing is starting early. I'm getting my gf into tanks. So when we are married she won't get mad when i spend "our" money on "our" tanks.

Take her snorkling over reefs in the Bahamas. Comment on how cool that is, and how it would be really neat to have a saltwater tank. Just a small one, of course. And then when she's hooked, move into a big tank.

That's what my husband did. Sneaky snot. :)
