we have a stand to leg on

is there a socket to plug in the female into?i have had icecaps just not mh ones, isnt the wireing diagram on the top of the ballist?

Yea they have the diagram and that is easy and they also have an instructions. Neither say anything out this black connector. Looking at it closer it is a female connector that has in three slots. One looks like normal power pin and the other two looks like grounding pins. I've not seen one of these before. I'll take a photo and post - strange looking.

Not the best of photos but here it is:

No - it's very strange looking and they don't mention anything about it. I guess it will be one of those "parts left overs" :D

i wonder if just maybe that piece is supposed to be installed in the wall.i mean hardwired into the home power.maybe?

OK - DUHHHHHH! Well I started looking around and well what is coming out of the MH (Looks like a power cord) but the ends are strange. Well I'd say "Strange connector" attaches to other "Strange connector" which connects into the wall. Man - I guess it's been a LONGGGGG day. I guess it's like a quick disconnect or something. I do know how it goes - I think - MAN!

it's a standard mh plug for that brand most likely. did that come on the fixture or on the ballast? ice cap has always been direct wire to the socket. most others use these connectors for quick disconnect because there ballasts are so hot they need to be remotely located. this makes it easy when removing your canopy. if it isn't attached and you are using an ice cap ballast set it aside just incase you decide to change ballasts later on. or sell it on rc.

So I end up with about 20 feet of power cable - only need 5 and about 1 foot of wire that goes from the ballast to the lamp. So, I guess it's to home depot for me tomorrow to get some longer 18g wire. I want to remote the ballast to keep it away from the water. The T5 wire harness is really long - no problem there.

Man - I think I understand it now. This is what you get when you mix Sunlight and IceCap products. After you connect the strange connectors together the wires (as if you need to hardwire it) is white, black and green. Normally you would think this is power. Following the diagram from IceCap their wires are Blue and Yellow that go to the light (Which is normal). Then from the ballast you plug into the house power. So, I wire together "blue from the Ballast to Black from the light" and "Yellow" with "white"? What a mess - I think I'll just call them before I plug or wire anything!

I just called ReefGeeks and they said you can connect either wires (yellow/blue to Black/white). I'd already lost one of my ballast the last time I didn't want it to happen again. This reef stuff is dangerous - LOL. It really makes my head hurt.

yep the good thing about a/c is it doesn't matter which leg goes where. unless you put the green to the others. that might be bad. I have wired alot of ballasts mh and just about everything else if you need help let me know.

Hi Robthorn, Thanks for the offer. I got it figured out now and it is very easy wiring - but . . . I'm not accustomed to wiring manufactured products this way. Normally when you purchase items everything is very straight forward. Not that in wiring "Colors" don't matter but normally they don't have you connecting a Blue wire to a white etc - LOL. Looks like we will have lights on - tomorrow by say 9 AM :D

I hope the offer is still on for next week.
