Webcam for tank, with long cord to notebook

My new HP Pavillion notebook has a built in webcam. However, it does not take a good video when I do remote viewing of my fishtank from my other computer that is 6 feet away.

So can anyone recommend an excellent quality of webcam that has a 10 foot cord from webcam to my notebook that I can zoom in on my fishtank, or even place the web cam on my fishtank top and hang over so I can view my fishtank from my remote computer.

Presently, I really enjoy seeing my fishtank, when I am up close about 2 feet away, so that's the kind of closeness I want to capture. Basically a closeup.

Thank you,

I can't recommend a model but don't let the cable length deter you from purchasing one that otherwise has the features you want or comes recommended by another reefer. You can buy a passive USB extension cable for a few dollars. You can get multiple active ones and place the webcam up to about 75 feet away from the computer, but they're slightly more expensive. If you do end up purchasing a USB cable, the type you want is Male A to Female A. The most common is Male A to Female B to hook directly to a device whereas the type I'm talking about just has to plug back into itself.

You may even consider a network based webcam. They're more expensive (~$200), but then you would have no restraints on the maximum distance you're from the tank and want to view it. You would be able to watch the tank from anywhere with internet if you wanted. And without the computer at home having to run any special software or even be turned on.

Siffy,

Thank you for your feedback. I am hoping some reefers will chime in with some recommended camera models. I am new to the web cam thing and was surprised, when my built in Webcam failed at giving enough detail for my needs.

Thank you for your insight.

little more expensive, but u could go wireless with x10.

I have a wireless on the side of my tank .. little bit of static..probably the 2.4ghz issue...same frequency as my router.

mms://bentheredonethat.us/fishcam if u want to ck it out. cam on most weekdays 11am til 5ish pm
