weird 15g high

Well today one of my moms friends gave me a 15g high dat measures around 20x13x13. Its freakin tall! I know that tall tanks don't make good nanos but i can't resist. I'll thinking about putting a halide on it since thats the only thing that will fit and put out decent light. Well i was wonder do you think the tank is to weird shaped to put as a nano? Is it worth it?

It's up to you...I personally think that any tank can be made into a nano if the aquarist practices good husbandry and maintenance :)

I can't wait to see what you do with it!

I guess the only negative to a tall tank is that the strenght of light will be significantly decreased towards the bottom of the tank.

However I personally prefer the look of tall tanks, especially tall nano's.

You get to make cool rock tower/mountain sort of aquascaping.

I haven't yet gotten into SPS... 70W will work for sure. I wonder if you will want something more like 150W to make sure the light gets down to the bottom.

There are ways to figure out how strong the lighting will be at depth if you feel like searching around.

good luck!

Thanks, thats a really good deal right there. I'm going to have to put some money together and get that for sure. But since the tank is only a 13x13 footprint its gonna be hard to aquascape. Do you maybe have links to other treads of people aquascaping tight spaces? Thanks

You'll have to scape more vertically than you're used to, i suspect, but I'm sure you can come up with some cool rockwork

This sounds like the kind of thing I would do; spend $1000 to make a $20 used tank work well. I did it once with an AGA 37 that was "free".

A tall tank can look very good. The best I've seen allow SPS all the way down to shrooms because of the multiple lighting options at different depths.
