Weird algae

Hey guys new to the page, I'm running a jbj 45RL reef. It's been running for about 5 months now and everything has been pretty good. But this weird algae appeared and I've never seen it before any ideas?

It looks like a sponge to be. Possibly a bacteria mat, but my money is on the sponge.

I was thinking sponge or some type if bubble algae, but nothing I've seen. Let the post ride a couple days and see if anyone gives you one if those "I had that" replies.

Thanks guys It seems to me that it's most likely some sort of bacteria it's like fuzzy carpet

That looks a lot like a bacteria mat. Are you carbon dosing?

to me that image has Sponges with Green bubble algae and some type of maybe bacteria bloom..

Maybe its just distressed sponge releasing the clear bacteria type stuff.

Not burning my candles near the tank, I am running a innovative marine reactor with carbon and gfo and on my last change I put a lot more carbon in than usual maybe the cause? And yes those are bubbles that are getting trapped in it (not green) and I think the're gone now. I'll get a better picture when the lights are on. Thanks!

It is believed that using scented candles can affect a tank. When the wax is burning, it releases chemicals into the air that can drift and make way into the aquarium...

I've personally never seen anything like this cause harm, but I'm sure someone has some anecdotal evidence.

There have been quite a few reports of mysterious "heavy slime/bacterial" issues in tanks and so far the cause (speculation) has been identified as having scented candles (plug in air fresheners) in the same room.. Once removed the bacterial issues have gone away/subside..

Now it seems that its "extensive" use of such products..

True or not IDK... but there surely seems to be something there..

That picture was in my tank. It was the only chunk of rock I had that wasn't new white Marco rock. So whatever gunk was left in it, was slowly leaching out in bubbles and goo. Didn't last long. Cleared right up after a week or two.
