Weird Fuge Issue

It's Dr. Goodluck Himself
Never encountered this in 15 yrs.

So, I shut off flow to my fuge last night by closing the ball valve on the line coming from my Hammerhead return.

A few hours later, the water level was halfway down and the internal maxijet was spewing water everywhere as the outlet was now above the waterline.

I do not know the brand of the tank but it is a 40cube with a corner overflow box, using both holes as drains as my flow comes from the top via my manifold.

It can't be a siphon from my outlets, as the ball valve was closed and that valve is just outside the tank. The arm from that valve goes up then down into the tank in an U shape.

So, how did all this water drain?

How low was water level in the drain space behind the overflow wall? Was it empty, equal to the water level in the tank or still almost full like then everything is turned on? Is it possible the wall leaks and the water is getting past the pipes of the drain into the bulkheads and down? BTW, did you over flow the sump? How many gallons disappeared from the 40g cube? Where did it go? Anything else flow into the tank? Maybe a chiller line that could have siphoned back to the sump?

How is your drain set up? If it goes through the bottom I would guess you have a slow leak in your overflow and it is seeping between the inside of the bulkhead and the drain pipe.

Pics of your setup would help...

I think the bulkheads are OK but a leak in the overflow box could make sense.

Damn I didn't look at the level in the overflow area. I was panicked and trying to stop the spraying all over the place!

Rereading, the sandpipe issue could also be buy more water is entering the overflow area for sure so a leak is probable there.

And no didn't overflow sump! Sump capacity should always overwhelm potential for that!
