Weird spot on fish

I bought a new green chromis on Tuesday, and noticed that evening that it had a small spot that looked like a bruise on one side towards the back.....about where it's stomach would be. Kinda of a reddish black looking bruise.

I didn't think much about it, thinking it was just what it looked like....a bruise....from getting netted and bagged, etc.

Up until today the spot didn't seem to be getting any better, nor any worse.

Today when I got home from work and was looking at the fish, the spot seems to almost look like a cut now...with some "fraying".....like it might be rotting or something.

The whole time, including tonight the fish seems to be fine.

Any idea what it might be, or what should be done?

find out the cause and treat it!

That was why I made the post, but as of yet, I have no idea what the cause is.

Haven't been able to catch it yet. I have 100# of rock in this tank.

The 30 G. is not setup or even cleaned.

Be careful about overreacting and stressing the fish out. Fish will get spots from time to time. Try using Melafix (it works great for fin rot and skin problems) and add some vitamins. Let the fish settle in. It sounds like you don't have a QT, which you should really consider, in case this was something like velvet, but I've seen many fish get a skin problem that goes away with good treatment. I like Melafix, but theres other stuff that's also reef safe for skin irritations. I just finished using it for my foxface in my 230 gallon reef and it worked great. I noticed improvement in 4 days.
