weird stuff in dispaly rack

like the title says, my bosses display rack has this weird sponge like stuff in only one of his tank, the rack holds 18 tanks, but only one has the stuff. nothing survives in it expect turbo snails, the really big ones and hermit craps. they seems to eat it. so what would it be and how to get rid of it

It just looks like harmless pineapple sponge to me. I've never tried to get rid of any sponge before but I think exposing most sponge to air can cause problems for them.

Ok ill see whats up with this pineapple sponge. It wierd cause any fish or shrimp in that tank would not make it....ever
