hi folks this is my first post here
hello from nb canada

last year working on a restart after tank crash with all coral and fish death.
almost walked away from the hobby.
bleach rocks tossed sand

up running now 10 months with best water test i have got.
made a new stand, 40 gal sump 48" with a large refug
led light on the refug reverse to the tank.
one night i opened the door to have a look and this astrea was on the glass
right away my eyes went to this tiny jet black thing extending from a tiny shell on the snails back.
so black in a reef setting it's unmissable
anyone see this before?

Yeah, it's a cap shell, or horse's hoof limpet. They don't feed on the host exactly, but may make holes in the shells of the hosts. When they die and fall off, it sometimes leaves the host vulnerable. The "limpet" may outlive the Astraea though, and they usually aren't much of a problem (although lots of people think they are ugly).

Cheers,

Don
