Hey reefers,

Do any of you happen to know what this stuff is? It's all over my live rock and sand.

How do I get rid of it?

The cycle finished a few days ago.

Nitrates 50 ppm
Alk 10.5
Phosphate 0.25

I have the same thing and what I think it is. is a bacterial bloom that is the only thing i have found searching the web
or snail slime. when you do a water change is it really milky and hangs heavy to the substrate when you vaccum it?

I agree, I haven't really been able to find anything else. Will it go away on its own if it is?

Is it just on the glass or is it on the rocks too? My first thought was snail trail snot but that seems to be too much of it for that. Based on that then I'm leaning towards bacterial but I can't really tell from that picture. Do you dose anything, i.e., vinegar, vodka, or NoPox?

I haven't dosed anything. As for snail trails this stuff was there before I added the snails.

The tank has been up for about 3 weeks. The only thing I'm doing which is out of the "norm" would be running a canister filter with sponges, filter floss and active carbon, as I had a lot of debris floating around from my sand. The canister is cleaned out every other day.

I know phosphate and Nitrates are a little high at the moment but i am associating that with being a new tank.

The only thing i can figure out is why my Alk is at 10.5. I did wash the tank out with water and vinegar before I set it up but it was washed and rinsed out many times before setup.
