The new Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco opened up a few months ago and I finally made it up there. If you ever get a chance to go I highly advise getting there BEFORE it opens! The museum features the Steinhart Aquarium, Tropical Rainforest, Planetarium, Swamp, Africa Hall, Living roof, and so much more. Built with the environment in mind the museum attempts to demonstrate modern green building. The new Steinhart portion is incredible and the tanks are still growing in. For now enjoy what the beautiful city by the bay has hidden in the park!

Thanks for the tour Ice- last time i went up there, they were just stopping letting people from coming inside! i missed out, but your pics definitely make me want to try again! did you get any shots of the clams?

no clam photos unfortunately. the photos didnt come out well for those. Its worth the wait although the aquarium stuff is organized rather haphazardly. the camera is a pentax k10d dslr

Wow, a live albino alligator. That is very interesting.

All of your photographs were very interesting but the alligator just strikes close home to me I guess. Its something I see every day (I probably saw 10 alligators today), but at the same time something I have never seen.

Do you know if the albino alligator came from Louisiana? I know that 15 or 20 years ago there were some captured around the New Orleans bayou area and were in the Aquarium. They said they were very rare and didn't survive well in the wild.

no idea where the albino gator came from but i beleive its been with the academy for a while since they had it several years back when they began reconstruction of the museum
