weld-on

Anyone have a small amount of weld-on that I could use to fix a crack in a piece of acrylic? It is a small crack, and so I think I need some thin stuff and not much of it, so I'd hate to go buy a whole tube.

Jack if you want to buy the whole tube and use what yah need and sell the rest to me I would be in. I need some to do a new sump.

I have never used it before so maybe you could give me some pointers as well. I just need to glue in some acrylic baffles into an acrylic sump.

I could use a little to fix a crack as well. I'd be happy to pitch in on a tube and would probably only need a few drops.

I have can of it that I am not using . I bought it to build a refuge and this stuff goes a LONG LONG way. Be happy to donate it to the club to be passed around.

Working with it is awesome and so easy. The main thing about using it is making sure you have stright, smooth and precice cuts on your acrillic as unless you have the thick it will not fill in. When you apply it , it will creap under the edges and sets up in a matter of seconds and after 6 hours of curing it is ready to use.

Just let me know who needs it first.

So, is the thick easier to use? Should I consider just buying some of it? What is the pro's over using the thin vs thick (if the thick fills in the gaps).

Thanks!

I'm no expert with the stuff. Angela has done a few baffles with it. Maybe she'll chime in. I just have a little crack to fix, so the thin stuff should work great for that. Let me know when you may be heading this way, and maybe we can work out a pick up.

the thin will work the best I would think on a crack. As it will trickle the whole amount of it and weld it in place.

As long as the pieces you are welding together are cut correctly the thin is a better bet as it will not leave pockets and bubbles where the thick can clump up.

I know in a workshop we did back in CA people is high volume projects like sumps though would use the thin for the first and then thick over that for added security. I have built two refuges and both were very easy and water tight the first try.

I really honestly belive the key to it is having a professional cut your pieces then building it.

The same fuge that was going to cost me $100+ , ended up costing me $14 in materials. Most shops will charge by the length of cut ( atleast in CA at Tap plastics they did ) and of course the thickness.

I have a little of the thick left you are welcome to but I think the thin would wick into the crack better. Mine is syrupy thick like model car glue. I used some thin to fix a crack in my old skimmer cup and taped it together till it set up and never had issues with a leak.

I also used some vinyl pool patch kit stuff from Lowes that seemed to melt the acrylic the same as the weld on did. It was a pretty big tube in the kit for $5

I have a can on Weld On #3 right here. The applicator has a bad habit of getting clogged, but I I have it fixed enough to where it should work if you're interested? I should be up at Ebay all day Tuesday if you're interested?

Wow! A lot of weld-on around the club. Is #3 the thin stuff? My dad is coming in today, and will be here most of the week -- but I think I can get to ebay sometime on Tuesday -- Maybe around lunch time.

Avalanche, if you happen to be over by cool springs mall sometime today, maybe I can work out meeting you. Otherwise, I may drop by ebay while I'm at work. Sounds like several in the club could use a little, though, so having it as a donation to pass around would be way cool.

As far as that WeldOn goes, whore it around a little so that everyone who needs it gets a little if you want. Sorry about the shape of the applicator, next time I order some I'll have to remember to get a few extra applicators because that one you picked up yesterday is about on it's last leg.

How'd that work for you by the by?

I could be wrong, but if I remember correctly from when I bought it, #2 is the thin stuff that makes cleaner seams but does not set as fast and #3 is thicker and sets faster...I think.

Thanks, Scucci!

It seems to be working fine. It was a crack in a skimmer cup, and I tried to get the stuff to wick down the whole crack. I used a Q-tip instead of the applicator, cause I didn't want to clog it. I tested it with water in it for a few minutes and it looks to be working just fine.
