Well my algae problem got worse pix and help

:uhoh2::uhoh2::uhoh2::uhoh2::uhoh2:Hey whats up guys my green film algae got way worse overnight after my water change. I fixed my GFO reactor pulled all the stuff outa my refugium. i replaced it with new stuff and i am now mixing a 20 gallons of saltwater for a water change im doing tonight. anyone a have any suggestions on what i should do differently or make sure this doesn't happen again?

Yea im using RO/DI i just picked up 20 gallons today of RO/DI how long you think after i scrape it all and do my water change?
 
I missed that. If it's a new tank random algae blooms are inevitable. They may last for 6-12 months just depending on how religious you can be with maint. Rock will leach stuff, sand will, the ongoing bacterial cycle will change and shift depending on the load, but it eventually will even out. UV can help clear up the water as mentioned by mark. I also always have a spare HOB filter that I can stuff with filterfloss/carbon, and run it for 24 hours. Clears water in a pinch. If you've never had FW tanks, you may not have 8 spare HOB's like I have.

yea im gonna do a water change tonight hopefully it wont go on past 3 days ill look into the UV. people at my LFS keep telling me to just too scrape it and water change until its gone. hopefully the GFO works this time! thanks guys!
 
How long has the tank been set up? There's no harm in siphoning it out, but some of the stuff you just gotta let it run it's course. I had a bad GHA outbreak. Glass looked like a forest. I scraped the sides of it one day and got the glass crystal clear. 2 days later my rock was a forest. Another month and it was all gone. Things like this are more of a concern on an established tank (at least a year), because by then anything leaching should be long gone, and if you are having random large outbreaks , something is probably amiss.

i've been running this tank for about a month its brand new. does this mean i shouldnt worry about the UV?
 
UV wouldn't hurt. Has the tank been cycled for a month or total time up a month. Also what size is the tank? I see you have 2 clowns, yellow tang, hippo.Going off your sig picture alone your tank is way over stocked. Either way, a month post cycle, or a month total, you should for sure slow wayyyy down.

yea its a 90 gallon tank. im prob not gonna buy anything for the tank for a while. im gonna see how this water change goes and ill put some updates up

UPDATE: did my water change


looks allot better but.. i bet im gonna wake up tomrow morning and see the same thing again knowing my luck
 
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you'll probably loose most if not all of your corals and a good many fish too, since they were all added to your tank before it was cycled. Corals need a tank with a little maturity, 3-6 months even. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you

i cycled the tank first with live rock for a while and tested my parameters. fish should be fine because i added them after the tank was done with its nitrogen cycle only thing im worried for is the corals and i pretty sure they will be good all im getting from this is a little algae bloom thats it

thanks man yea i guess its just a learning block im pretty new at this even tho i did 3-4 months of research on it. im learning real quick things go from sugar to s**t in 10 seconds if you dont keep up on it lol
 
This reminds me of my new tank syndrome I was freaking out because my tank was so green I could not see my clown fish. It's all part of the new tank let it ride it's course it will go away
 
A month and you have all that livestock already?

Hit the binders bud. Keep that up and your going to crash your tank. But I agree, corals your taking a huge chance with. Don't be surprised if the nem kicks the bucket.
 
LuciDog, I mentioned this to the OP early on in the thread, I hope it was taken in and made a difference. I'm hoping the best.
