tonight i was looking at my wife's welsi, and saw something that looks like maybe some type of aptasia?!?! refer to the pics

there is some kind of white coating / web / mold like substance next to it. the aptasia like thing is beside it and ducks in and out when touched.

any thoughts? ideas on getting rid of it and still saving the coral? will it spread rapidly?

thanks...

Looks like an aiptasia with a sponge beside it. The sponge shouldn't be an issue (most stay in the shadows and aren't invasive), but you'll want to get rid of the aiptasia ASAP.

MechEng99, thanks. i am planning on trying aptasia-x tomorrow. hopefully that works. i actually just copied your post about quarantining and treating coral on another thread. i am going to take more precautions on the 75g that i'm building.

That's awesome! Glad I could help.

If the Aiptasia-X doesn't work, try this...

Feed the aiptasia its last meal...give it some pellet food, mysis, whatever you have on hand. Feed it until it can't eat any more. This will make it so fat that it can't duck back into a hole and hide. Make a concoction of RO/DI water microwaved until hot, then add as much kalkwasser that the water will hold (you don't need much, maybe a tbsp of water). Suck some up into a pipette, turn off the water flow in the tank, then squirt the hot kalkwasser all over the aiptasia. Cover it all over. Let it sit like that as long as you can without harming any coral/fish/etc. Turn the flow back on, and make sure the kalkwasser paste doesn't float and land on a nearby coral (if it does, just blow it off with the pipette.) Keep an eye on the spot, but the aiptasia should be dead.
