2. If it's the MARS site that you are complaining is slow, then we should address it as a club. A while back, I proposed that MARS look at running its own forum like RC. Some board members were in favor, but one wasn't. I decided not to pursue it because there wasn't buy in from a key person.
BTW - you can't say that MARS has only 110 users online at any given time, so the MARS forum shouldn't have any problem. The MARS forum IS a part of RC. You have to look at the whole picture.
MARS could have their own forum, separate from RC. This would free the MARS forum from the problems inherent in RC, and add some additional benefits to MARS members and the other people who use the MARS forum.
The cost is minimal and could be more than covered with a few banner ads from local advertisers. This could generate some additional income for MARS. The local fish stores would probably welcome the opportunity to advertise directly to MARS folks and other local people who use the forum.
There are several forum software options that work well for groups the size of MARS and friends that are free.
Those software options offer sub-categories within the forum so we could have a sub-categories like: For Sale and Trades, Items Wanted, Help Needed, Club Business, another for...whatever categories we'd like. This would make the board easier to navigate and read.
The posting and search functions typically work almost instantaneously.
The task of managing a forum of that size, and friendliness of the MARS group would require minimal effort for the manager once the forum was set up. Maybe in exchange for a monthly banner ad the advertiser (local store) could give the list manager a gift card for $25/month, or something like that.
