Wet Neck Skimmer

Looking for information on wet neck skimming. I wanted to build one for my RO skimmer, and I have read up on old forums about them, but everything Ive read is from around ten years ago. So even though it all seems positive I assume there are some pitfalls or why would no major skimmer producer be using these? If anyone has any input on real world experience Id love to hear about it.

In my experience wet necks are primarely used on much larger commercial skimmers. Now a days we have the neck cleaners which keep the skimmer running optimally with less maintenance. On a smaller skimmer, I think a wet neck would be counter productive as you would be flatten the foam head from the water blasting into the nect. The end result would be a compromise in perfomance. Just get yourself a decent SCH and call it day.

I think you are thinking of something a bit different. The ones I am talking about use little to no pressure (besides gravity) and just have a very thin sheet of water sliding down the inside of the neck.

I have built my own neck scrubber for my older euroreef skimmer and it worked fine, but I am just thinking of trying something a bit different.

That's what I was thinking but more along the lines of the commercial ones like RK2 used to make vs a homemade one that just keeps the neck wet & slick. A good efficient skimmer will remove the DOC's regardless of the wet neck. I don't see any reason to add that when you have an SCH.

I want to lower the need to clean components as much as humanly possible (with an SCH you still have to clean the paddle and shaft) and also get rid of of components that take up space as with my new stand there is not enough room to clear the motor.

Either way the point of this thread was just to find out if anybody has any first hand knowledge on the subject.
