wetdry conversion

hello, I am looking into converting my wet dry into a refridgium of some sort, so i could start putting cheto in there, but i don't know about taking out the bio balls, i heard two things, take out a hand full a day, and I've heard take out a hand full a week,.,.,.? and help with any other mods that should be done to go with what I'm trying to do would be swell, thanks

well the advice is meant to allow your live rock and sand if you have it to take over the biofiltration duties the your bioballs were doing. the simple answer is yes with light and a container the algae will probably grow for you. taking out the bioballs as suggested will make disasters related to a lack of biofiltration less likely. nh3 and no 2 should be 0ppm. as you remove the bioballs you should check these two numbers to make sure there are no spikes. once you have them all out you can start growing macroalgaes
