WGardiner's Red Sea Reefer 170 Down sizing

The story starts with making plans to upgrade to a custom 250ish and now with curtain life changes going on causing me to move to a smaller house I'm down sizing to the Reefer 170. Running a Kessil 360 for lighting, a Reef Octopus Classic 150-S skimmer(local shop ordered the wrong skimmer so a win for me as I paid for the 110-S), Reef Octopus Varios-2 return pump. Kept a few frags from the old system and moved the clams in.

Awesome. Keeping tabs as I'm debating wether to get the nano or 170.

I'm on third floor of complex so the less I have to carry up and down when I move the better lol. I have a two gallon tank now so I know I'll have enough room for the few coral I have with either one.

Wow that looks amazing. Sorry for the forced downsize.

I just ordered that same return pump, should be here tomorrow. I'll tag along to see how yours works out.

The return pump is working great so far but the skimmer is way to much for this tank. Hopefully the local shop will exchange it for the one I was wanting.

I got my Varios on line tonight and so far it's great. A little less flow than the Sicce I was running but I wanted less from the return anyway. Now to figure out what power head or wave maker to put on the other side of the tank. BTW I Have the classic 110 int on my 65 gal and it's doing a great job.

Here is the tank, glass needs cleaned and unfortunately I lost most of the corals. Only reason I can think is the temp got too hot, was above 83.

Your previous tank looked great, sorry to hear you've lost so much coral.
I feel your pain. I also had a major problem in my tank, lost more than half of a big acropora and about 6 head of a big frogspawn... also downsizing after that.

The new set up looks pretty good so keep it up!

Thanks. I lost the corals after I downsized, the corals that I sold are still doing good as far as I've been told. Downsized due to changes in life that is having me move back to Florida from South Carolina and I don't want to have go move a 75 gallon tank. Did that a few years ago and lost around 80% of my livestock in during and after the move.

Yeah it sucks that your stuff died off, how'd temp get so high?

I believe it was my fault. This is the first tank in a while that I've had an in-sump return pump and I must have had set the heater a bit too high forgetting the pump was putting heat in the tank. Now the temp has come down and what survived is looking like it will make a come back.
