I saw a jellyfish in the lfs last night. I thought jellyfish were on the next to impossible to keep alive list. but then I got to thinking jellyfish come in all sorts of varities and with their translucent ghostishness would make a beautiful addition to a tank. are there none that can be kept by an average reef keeper?

Jellyfish really need a spieces only tank.
Needs to be round with a current running around the outer area, So that the jelly never touches the glass.

cent #1: the public aquarium i volunteered at had jellies in their own tanks
cent #2: they were round, and quite large

You can keep upside-down jellyfish. They require neither keistrel nor chiller.
The search function or Google should help you further.

The jelly you saw at the fish store was most likely a tropical jelly that does NOT need cold water, and may even be photosynthetic. As mentioned before there is also the upside-down jelly which sits on the substrate and is also photosynthetic.

Jellies are definitely in the realm of the seriously dedicated hobbyist, but need to be kept in a kriesel or kriesel-like tank. For the hobbyist with a large wallet the consumer kriesel is just making its way to market "the jelliquarium", but it is possible to make your own version for much cheaper.
