what about using velcrow to hold rails?

My sump is a 100g tank and last night I took the rectangular (3 hole) connectors and siliconed them to the rails to make a flat surface. Then when I get home today I was going to put the velcrow on the flat surface and attach it to the tank.

Good idea or not?

(I am only using 1 rail)

I wouldn't recommend it because I suspect the adhesive andd velcro will fail over time due to the moisture in the sump.

It is a standard 100g acrylic and I there is only about 40 or so gallons of water in the tank. Therefore, due to the lip at the top of the tank and the height, the only way it seems that I could install the sensors is by glueing the rail somehow.

If you siliconed the brackets in you should be able to just screw the rail to the brackets with small screws that were provided.

are the brackets the pieces that look like claws?

If they are, and I believe they are, I tried to screw the rails to them and they would not hold.

In your first post you described some flat plates with 3 holes, 2 of which are threaded. The purpose of these plates is to connect the rails and to adhere the rails to glass or acrylic panes. You silicon them to the glass or acrylic which is first cleaned and lightly scuffed with a scotchbright pad or fine sandpaper. You then use the small screws to screw the rails to the plates.
