i dont think the pellets are the problem. i started the pellets to help with the stn.
i took my phos reactor offline to see if that helps. raised alk slowly from 8.3 to 9. my ph was a touch low the other night at 7.9. i raised my kalk dosing and it seems to be better now.
i tried to crank up the mp10's but some of my soft corals didnt like the higher flow.
ive come to the conclusion that something is off with the water chemisty but i cant put my finger on it. could be trace elements or a chemical battle with leather corals.
my 125g should be ready for corals this week. im just waiting for alk to drop some more. its at 11dkh now. would like to lower it to 9.5.
im going to frag and move a few sps's to the new tank along with my frogspawn and toadstool. even though it my not be a good idea in such a new tank.. im not sure what the best thing to do is.
Yeah I was thinking that might be it since this is a mystery. I guess since you are taking the carbon off line and things get worse you'll know.
I don't know if I would mix the SPS in with other corals right off the bat in the new tank--I think I've read about toadstools in particular doing a lot of chemical warfare, but I could be wrong.
I'm keeping an SPS-only tank and avoiding this altogether!
toadstools usually arent a problem. finger leathers are mainly the problem. i have a perfect spot away from everything for my toadstool. with a 160 gal of total water volume it should be fine compared to the 38g in my small tank.
did some testing last night with new redsea pro kits.
here is what i came up with.
calcium -480
mag -1600
alk 8.5 dkh
i also purchaced the reef colors test kit. it tests iron, iodine and potassium. i only had time to do the iron test but it tested at 0.. should be .15. im sure 0 iron is not good for my corals.
i think need to lower mag and calcium some. im using brightwell kalk +2 and it had mag in it. maybe i shouldnt be using it. i have some brs kalk. should i switch?
it will be difficult to lower calcium while dosing kalk. how should i go about this. i dont want to throw my alk out of wack.
