What am I missing?

Thanks dkeller_nc, that is good information. A few weeks ago I came across information on how to regulate the biopellets "strength", adjusting the turbulence in the reactor and the water flow. I will give it a try and let's see if I can turn it down without impacting too much the NO4.

I believe that most pellets sold are poly(3-hydroxybutyrate).

I see zero reason to think that there isn't monomer released from it as bacteria degrade it. To think they capture every monomer that is released from the polymer seems unlikely to me.

I also expect both living and dead bacteria to be shed, along with all kinds of organic stuff they release. :)
