what are these egg like things?

ok, I've been watching some strange looking things in my tank over the last few days and just cannot figure out what they are. They are oblonged shaped things, the size of a piece of rice. They have 2 dark specks inside that look like eyeballs. If you watch closely you can see what appears like tentacle looking things moving around.... or .. something moving around. I finally was able to get some decent pics. Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m having a hard time keeping the bristle worms from attacking whatever these are. This is in a tank with 3 seahorses and a pipefish.
Any ideas?

Ummnn... Where the heck did those come from? I assume they are hitchhikers. Talk about a wild hitchhiker...

Mostly if they hatch, be prepared to keep it from going walkabout, into the filter, over the tank rim, onto the floor---they're noted escape artists and can fit anywhere their beak can. A baby one hasn't got much of a beak. ;)

I forgot to mention that I had an octo in this tank 2 months ago... I brought it home and put it in the tank that night .. NEVER saw it again ...

It was pregnant! Or do the reproduce asexually?

Anyhow, if you can raise them to an age worth selling, I bet you can make some nice money (or store credit) at a LFS...

Im going to give it a shot. I think I'll pick up one of those breeder net things at walmart tomorrow and start putting the eggs in there (so nothing eats them). Anyone know what these guys will eat when they hatch? maybe Mysis?

Chris,
I bet they will take newly hatched bbs. I wouldn't think they would eat anything not moving. Let us know if they develop further. Very cool.

If the babies are anything like my octo, you will certainly want them out of your seahorse / pipefish tank BEFORE they hatch. My octo goes after anything that moves, including my arm. Guess he has big dreams.....

There is alot of info on the ReefCentral forum for cephalapods, also the best octo site is www.tonmo.com. They will be able to help you raise them, which I understand isn't too difficult.

Good luck!

Yeah, since I dont know how many eggs are in the tank .. I will be moving the ponies to a temp home until I get them all out.

thanks.
