what are these zoos called??

LOL I dunno, I just live here of late.... I think I am going to dip all mine just because it seems like good sage advice from the guys around this forum, especially when they start talking nudibranch infestations and predation.

I like my LFSs, and I don't think they would intentionally harm me, but sometimes it seems they don't know it had something either, like maybe they haven't had it long enough... many of them seem to use shorter QT times if at all before selling.

well i did the FW dip a couple days ago, im a left with 1 lone zoo on the rock which is about half open, last time i buy coral from that store (this is the 3rd or 4th coral ive had die from the same store)

Ooooouuuccccchhhhhhhh..... So sorry to hear that, hun. Better luck in the future... What happened to the rest of them? Did they melt, or were there remnants of them on the rock? Where they dried up looking and then fell off, or were there husks?

The only reason I would ask is if you have lost others in your tank, you do not want to have released a predator into the tank only to find out after you add more zoas later. Sometimes the way things look when they die helps you decide why they died.

but i have bought tons of corals from the place i got this one and i have NEVER had a problem with any of them

Which one is it?
You should always FW dip any zoo, even from your mothers or best friends tank! JMHO.

I never cut a zoo unless it has been in my system for at least 4-6 months. Even though you ripped off a part of the colony it still could of sent it into shock because it was just introduced to your system.

As for the zoo id they are whammin watermelon or red eagle eyes, pretty much the same but they each have a few subtle differences.

If there is only one polyp open you might want to dip again-jmho
Did you bring the temp and ph to the same as your tank?

What are you water parameters? Just curious and good luck!

That stinks that it died.
My hunch is there is a huge difference in water quality from their system to yours. Usually salinty.
If you didn't acclimate them, then maybe you should start. 1 - 2 drops per second from your system into a bucket with the specimen. Do that for and hour or two, or until the salinity matches, you'll be fine.

FYI, I know that when you asked about how much a frag goes for that you were just happy and wanted to know how much of a bargain you just got, but... Etiquette, street smarts and past experiences dictate another situation altogehter. Just FYI ;)

agreed, do you have a refractometer? test the water of the stores tanks, and then test your own.

how long do you take to acclimate?
