What are these?

They look like oversized candy cane corals. They're a little bit bigger than the diameter of a US quarter. They're two toned as well. There was another piece of this same type at the LFS but it had different coloration but the same color scheme. Mine is irange to blue and the other was green to blue. Sorry for the shotty pictures :) I'm borrowing a digi cam this week but I'm curious if you know what it is. The LFS said it was a kind of a lobophyllia.

Also are micro's just super small acan's? I picked up this acan lord rock but they're like the size of M&M's. The other acan lord colonys I saw were between the size of a quarter and nickle. There's a few different morphs on this rock.

Can you tell if the coral in question is encrusting or is it growing its own skeleton?

If it is encrusting its looks like a blasto wellsi. Hard to tell from the pics though.

I finally got a real picture. The skeleton favites never made it :( They aren't in the tank any more unfortunately. I really wanted them to make it. But what the heck is that lobo/candy cane thing? And are those micro lords??

First pic looks like lobos. Also looks like acan maximas, I bet you wish they are:D :D Someone chime in and help out.

Also looks like acan lords that you have in the other pics but I might be wrong.

Come on guys, help this guy out

Yeah help me out! :) The lobo's that I see that are two tone usually have a distinctive edge where they change color these kind of just blur from Orange to Blue. When they're eating they open up like Acans in teh sense that there is a ring that opens up and feeder tenticles come out. You can kind of see them in the first real picture. The only thing about the Acan's that sets me off is they're M&M size instead of nickel or quarter size that I typically see on Acan Lords.

My guess would be lobo as well. I have a lobo that looks like that as well. The color shift from orange to grey is more pronounced when they are shrunk up, and less distinct when they are inflated. Your micro is beautiful as well. Be careful with thew distance to that acan echinata as the echinatas are real bad stingers. HTH

Cool thanks guys :) I know about that Rainbow Acan too. The same day I read on here about their sting I came home to find a "normal" looking lobo had falling over onto the Acan...when they were in a different spot. The lobo was completely melted :( It was a cool green on the outside and a pinkish/red on the inside. It was so healthy too, it was growing a new mouth and everything. Happened in less than 8 hours.
