First picture of an Aiptasia ("Glass Anemone"). Most hobbyists consider them pests. They mutliplte quickly and may sting neighboring corals. If you have access to a syringe...load it with some store bought lemon juice (I used the kind that comes in the yellow, lemon shaped container)...and inject it in the mouth. This was been a successful strategy for myself and colleagues.
The second picture is a bit harder to judge, given the angle. It may be some sort of Palythoa or Zoanthid ("Button Polyp"). Is there a long stalk like the object from the first picture...or a short stalk?
Also, where in Illinois are you located. You should explore the local reef clubs such as the Central Illinois Marine Aquarists (CIMA):
I agree. The first pic an aiptasia, very very bad! Kill it fast or suffer long time.
The second pic looks alot like the palythoa I have. They're not as bad, but if I had it to do over I would have left them at the LFS. They spread like weeds.
Thank you so much for the replies. I am not sure how long the second's tube/stalk is, it is in an awkward position to see a side view. It did close up when I opened the lid of the tank (startles easily I guess) and tried to get a pic.
