can you tell me more about kalk. or link me to a good article that explains how much to add. i have been using 1 tsp per half gallon(only dosing 1 half gallon) every day. obviously this is too much. can i use a less saturated mix, maybe 1/2 tsp per half gallon...?

How much to add is determined how I mentioned in my previous post. You need to figure out how much calcium your tank is utilizing before you can determine how much to add. There's no way for any article to tell you how much to add to your tank since there is no way for them to know your calcium uptake.

If your kalkwasser has some undissolved kalk on the bottom of the container you mix it in then it's saturated. Typically 1 teaspoon of kalkwasser to 1 gallon will be staurated or at least very close. If you want to still use one gallon to drip slowly there's no problem with using that and less kalk to make up your mix. But consider that if you use the same amount of water and less kalk then a greater percentage of it may be dissoving so it won't be hald the concentration. On the positive side you'll be using less kalk.

Here's an in depth article that should help.

Salifert ALk kits got a bad rap in the past year or so. Are the newer kits with the 6.4dkh calibration/test fluid still off?

My last 2 kits have had this 6.4 solution and both tested exactly at 6.4dkh when using the solution.

Anyways, according to the Salifert kit, my dkh stays at 9.6 with a ph that varies from 7.88 at night to 8.1 during the day. I drip Kalk 24/7 and dose 2 part when needed.

Depends on the which test kit you believe, Salifert 9.9, Elos 8.
