What are your thoughts to mixing wrasse?

Shallow Reef

Hi as above. I want to keep a single red coris wrasse, Yellow Wrasse and a peacock wrasse together all as juvi's. They are going in a 4ft setup. I haven't started the tank yet. What do you think to adding a peacock wrasse first and then the next stock, add the red coris and yellow wrasse together.

Thanks

That red coris can get over a foot in length. Doesn't sound like a good fish for a 4 ft tank? Yellow wrasse is very easy going. What is a peacock wrasse's scientific name?

I agree that the red coris will get to big, and I'm not sure what a peacock wrasse is. The yellow wrasse sounds like a good idea for a 4ft tank though

A peacock wrasse is generally a common name given to a couple of species of razor wrasses, most commonly Xyrichthys pavo, that as a juvenile has an extended front dorsal spine.

These fish get to about 10in, and can knock over rock work and unattached corals foraging for food.

Would it be fine if I moved it on the red coris wrasse as they are selling them as juvi's 1.25 - 2" How quickly will it grow? Sorry I said peacock wrasse but I meant flasher wrasse.

So the Yellow wrasse should be fine long term?

Thanks

A flasher would be fine in that tank with the yellow wrasse.

Red coris wrasses grow pretty quick and would be too aggressive with a flasher.

Ok I'll leave out the Red Coris and I heard they pick on shrimps and I would like to stock some sexy shrimp in there to.

I would like to replace the red coris wrasse out of my stock plan for another wrasse. Can anyone think of any other wrasse fish I can keep along with the other 2 wrasse?

Thanks

The yellow wrasse may be trouble for the sexy shrimp.
If you want to keep sexy shrimp stick with flasher and fairy wrasses.

You could try some type of fairy wrasse although I don't know much about those and if they would be fine with your other wrasses. Also, you could get/create a pair of yellow wrasses or a group of the flasher wrasses

The Pencil Wrasse it will be a nice combination of mixed wrasse. Are the females orange in color? Would it be fine to stock 2 females and 1 male?

I currently have 5 wrasses all in the same tank pencil, lubocks, carpenters, yellow merangue, and female pencil

Hmm, well I wasn't looking to stock them in so early so I may leave them out but will something bigger be fine like a cleaner or red shrimp?

There are some lovely colors in the fairy wrasse group. Makes it look like there are so many different species of them looking over google pics.

Will these wrasse get on all fine with one another or will there be conflict or is it normal if there were to be a few little harmless conflicts?

I saw this guys Cirrhilabrus earlei Fairy Wrasse truly stunning and on my list. :)

I have a red, yellow, and melanarus all together in a 210gal. The red is terrible at flipping frags and anything not attached - be forewarned they dig and flip constantly... Little bastard might have to go actually.....

LOL

I plan to actually make my sand just below 2" for them to dig and hide out when they need to. To be honest the only main shelter they are going to get is from the coral when they grow out as the rocks I have chosen don't have any crevices or holes for them to hide in, maybe one of them, but it will be tight for them all to fit in. lol

My sand bed is about 2.5". That's the other thing I have oolite sand and his constant digging keeps sand suspended in the water column A LOT... little bastard....

According to live aquaria for the flasher wrasses: "A grouping is acceptable and often recommended, since the females will encourage the male to perform colorful displays. The females should be introduced into the tank first." I have no personal expirience with pairing yellow wrasses but I think they are like clownfish and can change genders to create a pair if you were to get two juveniles. I know others on here have paired wrasses from the Halichoeres family so hopefully they can help you.

A good trick is to rearange rock work if the fish have become to ageessive....also if you add 4 or 5 wrasses at a time they wont have a territory just fo your homework and provide plenty of hiding spaces since all wrases dont sleep in the sand

I have 7 wrasse in three different genus in a 72x24x21 living very peacefully.

Sexy shrimp will severly limit you in fish choices as they are so small lots of things can eat them.

I would not get any females if it were me. My fairies and flashers dislplay at each other. Even the Halichoerus wrasse join in.

Why is it a bad thing to get female wrasse and the display part you mean to the other sex or out of aggression to one another?

I will see if I can find a female and male pair or trio of 2 females and 1 male.

I'm going for a minimalist scape with 3 pieces which are 17", 15" and 8" across. They are pretty wide though but will be using other smaller pieces to angle one of the rocks flat at the top. I could try to make some hide outs with them there. It probably wouldn't do much if I tried to rearrange a few pieces lol.

There will be plenty of hideouts with what I'm planning to do with the corals. That's the whole idea. Would it cause huge problems on my param. if I add 5 fish all at once?
