i need small rocks for frags and someone told me in the last FMAS meeting that they go to the beach and pick up rocks. where can i do this?

TIA

i go to dania beach and get rocks, i have put some of them in my tank. mine have just started to come "alive." it's a lot cheaper then buying the rock.

If its any small rocks you are looking for just go to the beach to get them. Shells, etc are perfect. I got tons of them, but have never used them because of the fear of something bad stuff getting into my tank.

Use bleach on them, dry, clean with r/o water and then use them.

Right now may not be the best time becuase alot of beaches are closed due to some kinda bacterial explosion. But the best place i know north of miami is haulover beach just south of the nude beach, lots of rocks within swimming dist from the shore of appropriate size with some coralline algae on some. in about 8-10 feet of water so take a mask and snorkel. Other best place is the rickenbacher cuaseway near miami seaquarium lots of rock along the tide line and hermits too.

Most LFS ower's will give away rubble rock. It's the busted rock at the bottom of the live rock boxes we can't sell that I'm talking about. We give it away. Any rock taken from Fla waters is illegal even if its the size of a matchbook. Be careful.

I'll take advantage of this Pat. Will be dropping by soon. :D

From what I know it's legal to pick up a dead rock or shell off the beach, except if it is a state park (you can't take anything from there).

thanks to all of you for your answers and suggestions!! i went to my LFS and they gave me some for free since they usually throw them away.

Besides Reef Life, All Sealife on Pembroke Rd has hooked me up with some rubble... I would think pat's is better since it comes from much more healthy rock.
