What brand of Phosphate remover?

I have a couple of Phosban reactors that need new media. fyi, one of them is used for carbon.

I am familiar with Rowaphos and Phosban. However, I have seen other brands that seem to be made of the same compound, for less money.

My question is, what brand of media is everyone using, and why?

The reason I ask. They all seam to be made off the same compound. Why would there be such a wide range of prices?

rowa is a bit harder while phosban seems rather brittle. so i like rowa so that i don't have to worry about it turning to dust when i fluidize.

if you are turning phosban into dust you are doing something wrong...way too much flow...Rowa is more liquidy and phosban more granular....

if you want help i would talk to randy in the chemistry forumn....there is virtually no difference as long as it is GFO----some remove faster at lesser dosages but they all end up quickly doing the same thing...make sure it is a granular ferrous oxide

here is a study(kind of):

have used both .... it seems that the rowa does not have such a large amount of unusable as does the others.... in other words... not so much red water.... ... good luck

i mix them in my 2littlefishies reactor. i use both to save $$ as phosban is cheaper so it lowers the cost of a refill

going to try PhosPure from foster and smith. Half the price of others.

Thats what I've been using, seems to be about the same thing as phosban, rowaphos seems to be a little finer

Has anyone ever used phos-buster? I won some at one of our club meetings, but I'm very leary about using it. It's a liquid that you pour in your sump - not granular like phosban or rowa. Just wondering if anyone has tried it and how it works.

shooter... how do you like the warner product... is it keepingits size or does it kinda turn into mush? some vendor was saying that he did not like theproduct as it had a problem keeping it granualar size...

i was interested in this product because it seemed to have the potential to have less of a run off. in other words like many who use this stuff.. i put it in my reactor and allow about 5 or 10 gallonsof tank water to flush throgh it thereby cleaning the dust out ...the flush water goes down the drain and the added benifit is a 5 to 10 gallon water change...

what i noticed with the rowa phose is the water cleared earlier than when i used the phosban.. i also noticed that the water was more red with the phosban...

so let us know and if you can please tell how you use yours

thanks

For the price is looks like a good deal. I tried PHOSaR but it did not really do anything. The Phosban and their media seems to be reducing some HA.

tired of water chanegs. Another 15 gallons tonight! :(

Chicago, I'm on my first batch of the stuff and nearing time to change it out. I can't really comment on how it's holding its form just yet as I'm not running this in a reactor that I can see it well. After some discussions with Randy and someone from Warner Marine, I have been using it in a canister filter along with carbon, so I can't really see the stuff without taking apart the canister. Main thing I know right now is that my PO4 went from trace to undetectable, and a problem I was having with a weird gray fuzz algae-type stuff is now clearing up. I do know that when I first put it in the canister, I didn't have the carbon yet and ran it for about a week without the carbon. I opened it up then to put the carbon on top of it in the basket and what I saw in the basket was the PHOSaR still in the shapes it was when I put it in there. Will probably be changing it out at the end of the month so I'll see then.
