What cameras are you guys using?

Hey all!

Just curious as to what cameras you all are using for thine reef. In particular, dSLRs.

I'm thinking about getting a new camera in a bit and was thinking about a D50 or a 20D.

What all are you guys using and how do you like 'em? Any D50 or 20D users out there?

I'm using an XTi (400D). I'm happy with it, but still haven't figured it out completely. I can get some really good shots of things other than the tanks, but tank shots take a lot more prep (good lighting, which my house lacks, turning off pumps, tripods, etc.).

I have been using my sony handycam HDR-SR5 camcorder lately because of the convenience. I did notice that my pictures have been coming out kind of washed out looking though. Some of my frag swap pictures look crappy. I did use it to take some pictures in my dwarf seahorse tank and they turned out great. I think it is the lighting in the reef that is messing me up. I would love to have a camera that would take nice reef pictures.

Oh, I also have a Sony F707 but it hardly gets used anymore. Too many settings to fool with.

Yeah, I'm expecting the learning curve for me is going to be straight up! I'm very new to photography... I started researching and I thought "this stuff is worse than audio!"

Oh, and any good links for tank photography? Thats one of my main reasons for wanting a good camera... I'll probably get a macro lens next... and a tripod, of course...

Brandon, I have a D50 and love it. I can't give you any feedback about shooting tanks with it but would mention that you should get a flash for it. It has a little flip up flash which is adequate, but if you get one that mounts on the flash mount and can be angled it will prevent the flash from bouncing back off the glass. Other years as well. Look for articles by Greg Rothschild. He's written probably a dozen articles on tank photography, and his articles include a lot of information and tips with laymen explanations.

That would be great, Skirrosi if you could bring it. It will probably be my only chance to hold one since they have been discontinued. And I'll definitely check into flashes... I've seen that mentioned as an accessory to get ASAP before.
