What controller are you using your 180 or bigger?

So which one would be the best one for internet monitoring and alarms? any controller with a webcam capability?

I find it hard to believe that no one has mentioned the profilux III. I don't have a big tank but I do know that the thing is borderline infinitely expandable. Everything works just as advertised with a large amount of features not found on alot of other controllers. Someone mentioned webcam support and that is something that I know for a fact is in the works.

From the comparison that I did there is just no comparison in the number of features available but I will admit that it does come at a price.

kmu - Apex has the ability to monitor remotely so I would think it can check the status of the tank.

IAReefer - I think that spreading it out over the three EB8s is the way to go.

PSU REEFER - It's the little things like that people find annoying with the RKE. Like you said in terms of functionality they are pretty much the same except I think Apex is easier to program :). I am looking for ease and functionality.

Thanks for all the comments people! Apex is going to be my choice for the controller. I will place an order for this next week sometime, pending Black Friday sales . I have been happy with my AC Jr but now it is time to upgrade. I have outgrown the number of things I can control with it. I may still keep it around for my QT set up.

How many people are using it to control the variable speed Tunze pumps?

Can the Apex control the Tunze variable speed pumps without the Tunze controller? This is good news if it does because I will save a lot of money not getting the Tunze controller

kmu - Yes it can control the Tunze pumps. It replaces the AquaSurf module that alone is savings of $124.

The AquaSurf was supposed to be able to do the following and from talking to Curt the Apex controller can replace the AquaSurf.

- Works with any of the Tunze Stream pumps that are compatible with the Tunze 7095 controller.
- 4 independent channels for control of 4 pumps.
- Independent variable speed control on all channels.
- Resonate mode used to generate waves (with or without a wave box).
- Precise on/off period configuration.

bbart12 - I think the Apex WXM allows control of the Vortech pumps.

kmu,
I think you missed the best deal on them Apex controller. Salty Critter and a few other places had great Black Friday sales. Most place were running a 10% off sale. Salty Critter had 15% off for purchases of $600 of more. I cashed in! I purchased the Apex Controller with standard pH and ORP probe, two Tunze 6105s, and the Octopus Super Reef 3000INT skimmer. The price is pretty much the same from most online vendors for the Apex. Just compare a few places for package deals. I will using mine on my new 180 Tank Upgrade.

well.....
i have been running my 240 for 1.5 years with no ATO or no Controller......

(looks like i need a sweet Christmas present!!)

The standard Apex can; the Lite cannot. There is no need to use the Tunze controller, but you do need the Apex to Tunze cable, which seems to be available anywhere Neptune products are sold. Each cable will control two Tunze pumps, and there is a maximum of two cables per Apex, so four pumps controlled in total. If you need more (or, if you originally bought the Lite and now want pump control), there's the VDM module, which is designed to control AI LED lights, but also supplies an additional four-pump capacity.

It works well, and it's flexible and quick to program. I have mine running a pair of 6055s and am very pleased with the setup.

dahenley,
It would be a sweet present for sure! Mine arrived the other day and it just looks so pretty.

bazineta is correct in that you can buy the Neptune to Tunze cable pretty much where ever they are sold and also about the module they have for the Apex Lite. I purchased the cable when I purchased my set up but there are also threads on here where people have built their own.

Running AC III on my system. Right now it is only controlling my LEDS and fuge light. Willl be adding the skimmer and possibly return pump as well.
