What corals can I keep?

I have never had corals before. I have upgraded my lighting to an Odyssea 4 bulb t5ho fixture. It is 36 inch over a 38 gallon tank, and total watts is 156. I have replaced the stock bulbs with 2 ATI Blue +, 1 Purple +, and 1 Coral +. What are some nice easy corals to try for someone never keeping corals before? I know I wanna get some zoos, and shrooms, but what else would be good to add to that mix? Some corals are listed as "moderate light" what is moderate? Sorry, kinda a noob to coral! :bounce3:

It looks like you will have enough light to really grow any coral. Some LPS corals are easy to work with as well. My first LPS was a duncanclops and it is growing like wildfire in my tank.

In terms of lighting (Low, Moderate, High) I use an extremely basic rule of thumb...think of lighting in levels of your tank. Low light would be lower 1/3, Moderate would be middle 1/3 and high would be upper 1/3.

You will need to see how your corals react to the lighting that you place them in. A good general practice is to start all of your corals at the bottom of your tank for a week or two then every week or so move them higher in the tank until they look like they really like their location. You can tell by more polyp extension and and color vibrance.

Just to clarify further, different lighting systems produce different lighting intensities. High placement in your tank (based on PAR) may be equal to, or greater than, the low placement in other tanks.

Start by checking your nitrates and phosphates. if they are high then you need to improve your maintenance setup first. FOWLR tanks tend to be high in nitrates due to the high bio-load.
