What could cause this type of damage to my mushrooms???

Brann

I went to feed my tank tonight and noticed this messed up scene in my 90Gal that has been rock stable for a few years now. I have not changed my tank maintenance plan in any way or added any new livestock. The last thing I added was a coral banded shrimp about 4 months ago.

Live is as follows:
1x Mimic Tang
1x Yellow Tang
2x Green Chromis
2x Clown Fish (Pair)
1x Brittle Star Fish
2x Peppermint Shrimp
1x Coral Banded Shrimp
Misc hermit crabs

What could of caused this type damage to my mushrooms? This only happened on the far right side of my tank and as you can see one of the mushroom has this white/pink stringy looking thing popping out of it and has started to shrivel. The 2nd one was pretty large and over hanging ontop of some button polyps, but is now a shriveled mess. The other picture I attached is a mushroom from the mid left side of my tank which seems to be in perfect heath just like all my other coral in this tank. This makes me assume something tried/did eat it.

Any ideas?

:(:( Looks like a sting job from a neighboring coral. I hope this is the only casualty you suffer. Best of luck!

allelopathy. mushrooms can and do emit chemicals to poison other kinds of mushrooms. run carbon or chemipure and see if that doesn't help

i have noticed that when my mushrooms stress. and string.....i have an out break of lil ones....i always add iodide suppliment and they seen to be doinf fine...any chance of having spaghetti worms in tank?? something deffinately bothering it though

Discosoma wont/cant affect each other, therefore alleopathy is out. Leathers are your big offenders here, if you have a lot of leathers run carbon.

From what i have seen in my tanks, spag worms dont irritate anything and seem to be beneficial.

As far as i can tell here in this case, it looks like it was stung. Any hammer (euphillya), lps, or nems near by?

just wandering i know that sometimes thay(sp. worms) can pester polyps...but not that bad...just brainstorming.. a sudden change in water perimeters will cause them to do that also

Ive seen spag worms irritate polyps before as well, but i just move them with something and all is well again :)
