I have had this young S&S puffer for about a week now in QT. Tonight I found a few marks on him that I have never seen before. He did not have them a few hours ago, they just seemed to show up quickly! they look almost like burn marks...

The second one really concerns me, as it is an actually indent in his head. It is hard to see in the pic but its really black. The one under his mouth is also very black. He is still acting normal and seems very happy. I have no idea where thses suddenly came from?

Water params are....

amm. 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 20
ph 7.8 (gotten low the last few days)
sg. 1.026

Any ideas?

Anyone have any ideas? I know the pics are not the best...

I was just looking again and the one on his head almost looks like a cut but its kind of a black color...Not sure.

The one under his mouth...I have no idea!

It seems so weird that it just showed up suddenly!

hi TriniStylez,

how is it looking today? Any better any worse?

Is there anything else that is accompying the spots?

Do you know what the differences in the water that you got him from and when you put him in your tank?

you say a QT but it has lots of rocks and substrate, is he in you main tank?

I am not sure as you posted param that were fine, but he has something that affected skin that came on fast.

He is in a tank by himself that I am using as a temporary QT because my usual Qt has other new fish already. he is acting fine and the spot under his mouth kind of comes and goes. Like it will be there one time I look at him and then an hour later its gone....

The one on top of his head is the same or maybe even a bit better now. Its hard to see in the pics but its an actual slight indent. Looks like a cut or something but its a dark color, which I have never seen.

Otherwise, its been a few days since I noticed the spots and hes very happy. Having said all that, he had a few ich spots on a fin yesterday, so I started hypo right away. I kind of expected the ich because he was in a tank with a few fish that were getting it at the store. So I am now two water changes into the hyposalinity and all seems well. Ich spots are gone already and sg is 1.015. He will stay at 1.010 or so, for about 4 weeks I think and then finally get to go into his new home, where he will be the only fish!

Anyways, I still am not sure about the dark spots but I am treating for the ich and hopefully the spots are nothing! As I said, he is very active, not trouble breathing, very healthy looking fish!

If you have any ideas, please let me know.
