I have been out of the hobby fro about a year now and I am looking to get back into it, but on a smaller scale. I know what is needed for a large tank, but I am not quite sure what is needed for a smaller nano. I guess my three questions are...What kind of flow do I need for a 24 gal. JBJ nano? Do I need a skimmer and if so, which one? I wold also like to know who has them at a good price? Thanks for all the help.

Buy a 24 AquaPod. By Current - Go on there website.
Better lights 64 watt PC's.
Replace stock pump with MJ900.
NO skimmer, just a few gallons every other week or so for your water change.
You can drill a 1 1/8" hole for a bulkhead and add a second MJ900 pump. 460 GPH flow over the stock 290 GPH.
Plus do a dual fan mod like I did.
I have done all the mods to the aquapod.
GREAT little tank.
Have FUN - Hope this helps.

I also have 2 1/2 year old 12 JBJ.
Never had a problem with it , has a few mods.
But would like to replace it at the end of the year with a 12 aquapod.

To answer the original question:

You don't "need" many changes. It comes with 72W PCs and moonlights, and the stock pump is "good enough" for softies and (some?) LPS. I don't use a skimmer, but I grow macro in the display for nutriet export. No mods, running like a champ. Change 3G every 2-3 weeks.

JBJ Two 28 watts PC = 56 watts
AquaPod Two 32 watts PC= 64 watts
BOTH have (2) LEDs 3/4 watts each.
Check your LFS and the recycler and Reef Collection, Ocean Reef Tropical Fish,Ocean Blue, Jeff's.

I have a 24 Nano cube I will be taking down as soon as I get things moved to my new 24. The hinges were cut off the top and it has a very small crack up in the trim area. $100.00 located In Irvine. If you interested in live rock and sand I can help out with them too.
I will be posting a thread on the mods I did to my new one in the nano thread shortly. You don't need to do much or anything depending on what you want it to do. I would modify it to make a refugium for macros if nothing else. I have SPS (Monti Caps) and two large Rose anemones in my old 24 one under the stock lights.

get the 24g aqua pod with 70w hqi, they run like 300 and you can just about put anything in the tank.
And the added plus is that, like mine, you can put an aqua C romera on the back and put a hang on the back refuge and neither can bearly been seen because the light is in the way.

And Im sure someone local is giving away some rubble rock, get some water from someones water change to kick things up a little quicker.

I really doubt a nano needs a skimmer. With weekly water changes Im sure ur good.

If you decide to go bigger than 24g then do get a skimmer.

my aqua pod is great and I have had no problems, plus the space to add the skimmer and refuge makes maintence a breeze and my water quality perfect at all times.

and yes, the skimmer in fact does pull out some nasty skim. (with only 3 fish, shrimp, hermits, and corals.)

I have BOTH nanos.
My money is on the AquaPod.
Hey saltyESQ which skimmer are you running - open top?????

I know someone that had the JBJ and then returned it for the AquaPod, (I think).

His opinion was that the AquaPod was much higher quality than the JBJ.
