I am getting ready to biuld the stand for my new 300. The stand will be steel with wood trim. What should I put between the tank (acrylic) and the steel stand?
im assuming your running a flat bottom acrylic, ive seen people put a sheet of plywood and then a layer of firm styarafoam insulation, its like 1/2" or 3/4" thick. hth
Definitely put the pink styrofoam down between the plywood and your tank. It will account for any uneven surfaces on the plywood. I used the 1/2" material you can find at any home depot.
IMO, plywood is mandatory, doubled up 3/4" is recommended for a firm, flat surface. Doubled up 3/4" ACX or sanded shop is perfect, smooth side up. A layer of 1/2" styrofoam or 1/4" neoprene on top would be recommended/advised but not *absoutely* necessary.
FWIW I always paint the wood to match the stand and a coat of urethane on top, 'course this is not all necessary but serves a purpose & I likes overkill
