what do you feed you lyretail anthias; how often do you feed?

I've kept many anthias species for years, including lyretails, and two feedings a day has been sufficient for these. One feeding a day will not be enough, and I've seen this species grow thin as a result of one feeding. Two feedings a day will do all fish well, but many planktivorous species like anthias require more frequent feedings...

Also, when you first attain the fish, you may want to feed even more frequently for a few weeks to make up for lost body fat as a result of no feeding through the transportation process...

During the week I feed when I get home from work, around 7 pm, and also around 11 pm. If you do use an autofeeder obviously be sure your anthias are eating whatever food you place. Many anthias will not touch dried foods...

I feed all of my fish a mix of different frozen foods like Piscine Energetics mysis, the gel bound foods from Ocean Nutrition like Formula 2 and angel formula, squid, and a few other mixes... I also feed Spectrum brand pellet foods which I soak for a few minutes befroe feeding to soften them up...

Hi John, do the anthias eat the pellets and what size pellets are you feeding? TIA

My two females eat Frozen Brine & Mysis plus Prime Reef Flakes. I usually only feed once a day, occationally I may add a smaller amount of food for a 2nd feeding. I had a male Lyretail for about 1-1/2 and he did fine with the once a day feeding. I lost him to a power outage of 12+ hours. I believe that the Lyretails are OK with at least once a day feeding, but other Anthias require more.

I try to feed mine at least once a day with either meaty foods or flakes, but when I was fighting dinos I cut my feedings down to only 3-4 times a week and it was fine.

I have 5 in my 240 and I feed them twice a day. They eat mysis, pellets, cyclopeeze, squid. i also soak there food in selcon, garlic or zoe. Seems to be working well, i've had them for 5 months now and 1 just turned to a male last week.

Yes, again only if soaked before feeding so they're soft (the lyretails at least). The bimaculatus are like grouper and hog lots of the food thrown in. I've always fed the 1mm pellets, but am now also doing the large 3mm Spectrum more for the large angels I have...
