What do you feed your nems and how often?

After reading TXchewy's post about his carpet eating his fish I was wondering what you INTENTIONALLY feed yours.

I have heard mainly target feeding with krill every other day.

I switch off b/t krill and silversides, I feed mine every 2 to 3 weeks, depending on when I remember to do it.

I have heard that silversides don't have enough nourishment in them.
Only once every 2 to 3 weeks? I would think that if the don't get fed more often are they more likely to grab a fish?

If they are whole silversides I would think that they would have enough.

In the 9+ years of keeping Haddonis ( known as fish eaters ) I have only lost 2 fish to them. And for the majority of that time I have been using that feeding schedule.

I might be wrong on this but I don't think that anemones can control whether or not they fire their nematocysts. It's my understanding that it's basically a reflex response. If a fish comes in contact with an anemone's tentacles they're going to take a hit. A fed anemone may not move the fish to its mouth and consume it, but something with powerful stings like a Haddoni is going to probably envenomate and kill a small fish regardless. Larger fish I would guess stand a better chance especially if they were released. I keep a large H. Mag that I feed mysis every other day to, and despite this schedule, it has taken a pseudochromis, a few shrimp, and a couple of damsels.

bk, I know some people feed their haddoni more frequently, but they also get fast growth. Unless you want that, smaller feedings less frequently would be the best route.

And that is the main reason ( besides being lazy ), that I don't feed mine all that often, want to control the size of them. When I first got my blue one I fed it often, and it took off ( in growth ) but now I have slowed down the feeding, and it return the growth has too.

By the way how big could a haddoni reach if fed well and under good conditions in an aquarium?

I would guess it could easily get over 22 inches.

I know that I have seen one at an LFS that had to have been at least that big, it was just HUGE.

Wow.
If mine grows to 20" (it's probably a good 10") I'm going to have to build a rock divider in my 220g and call that the pit of despair, or the point of no return.:eek1:

I feed my 18" haddoni and my 3 gbtas maybe once a month if that. Its usually a couple peices of krill.

And anemones dont just jump out and catch fish. You could feed it all you want and if a fish swims into the nem its still going to eat it if it can. Its not going to let it get away because it has food in its stomache already.

I only feed y anemones squid and do it whenever I think to, sometimes its a couple days and sometimes its a couple weeks.
