What do you feed your starry blenny?

In my experience Starry Blennies generally will graze microalgae on the rocks and glass at first and gradually will take Nori from a clip and finally just about everything you feed the tank. They're one of my all-time favorite fishes with tremendous personality.

Keep an eye on your Tomini Tang though. I've had problems with bristletooth tangs harassing algae grazing blennies when they try to feed.

I agree with everything Dakota Reef said. One of our favorite fish also, so much personality! Ours eats anything we throw in the tank- formula one, formula two, mysis, and just about anything else. Just like he said though, I have heard also of people having problems with bristletooth tangs and blennies.

My starry eats anything. Rods, mysis, and he picks algea off the glass rocks and sand bed all day.

My starry grazes on rocks and eats garlic soaked nori that I put on a clip for my sailfin. He also eats mysis when I feed the tank.

i fed mine rod's food every few days, and dried seaweed (like nori) every few days. in between that he worked over the rocks pretty consistently. after a while he would take food right from my hand. i can't wait to get my tank running again so i can get another one.

I can verify the fact that Starry Blennies and bristletooth tangs (in my case a Kole) don't get along. Nothing major but if the Kole catches the blenny grazing, there's a short chase.

As to diet, my Starry will eat anything I put in the tank!

Sorry for the bump of an "old" post, I just got a Starry Blenny 2 days ago and he's already eating flake food (ocean nutrition prime reef), new era etc (all meaty flake), he also grazes for algae off the rock/back wall.

I have a Kole Tang in my old tank (in process of transferring fish to new tank slowly), after reading this thread i'm a little worried about putting him in to the main tank with the Blenny.

Do they proper fight or just a little chase? Can they live together?

Me three on the Blenny/Bristletooth issue.
I "had" a Algea Blenny and my Kole tangs persistant harrassment eventually led to his starvation. The Kole would aggressively chase the Blenny at every opportunity, IMO no, they should not be kept together.

Same here. My kole tang is currently in my sump because he chased my starry blenny and diamond gobies all day long and wouldn't let them out of their caves. Not sure what I want to do with the kole tang now after reading others experiences with bristletooths.

It took along time for my poor Blenny to eventually starve and the Kole never gave up the chase. Your only option will be to permantly remove either the blenny/gobies or the Kole

I have had a starry since January, and added a small scopas tang about a month ago. Oddly enough, they are tank buddies and swim and eat together. We'll see if it lasts...

Well I put my Yellow Eye Kole Tang in with my Starry Blenny and they don't even bat an eyelid at each other.

My new Sohal on the other hand, well the Kole hates him..

What order did everyone add their starry and bristle into the tank? I was thinking of getting a spotted bristletooth but was going to add him last with the yellow tang together. Will the bristle still pick on the starry if the starry was in there first?

I know this is old, but how long did it take for your starry blennies to start accepting foods? We have had ours for about a week, but he hasn't eaten any of the flake or mysis we have put in. I have seen him pick at algae, but I keep reading everyone say their starry blenny is a pig and I just want mine to be a piggy too
