What do you have in your chamber?

Just wondering what you all have in your nano cubes. I have a 12g DX. I know people make sumps/fuges etc with them. Let's see what you have. All I have is

Chamber 1: Filter media (all three)
Chamber 2: LR rubble
Chamber 3: MJ 900/Heater

What do you guys/gals have??

Chamber 1- Chemi-Pure on the bottom, filter floss on top of that

Chamber 2- Purigen & Phosban (and heater)

Chamber 3- MaxiJet 1200

IMO you can do a lot more with Purigen, Chemi-pure & Phosban than with a fuge. I have 5 fish in my 24, granted some are small but I still don't have algae problems.

Someone please enlighten me. When you talk about "chambers".

I have stacked LR rubble about 1/2 way up in the "filter chamber." (The one on the right side of the tank.)

Ontop of that I have laid a bag of chemi-pure.

Ontop of that, cheapo filter floss that I throw away 1-2x per week.

In the "pump" chamber, there is the pump of course, and my heater.

Is this correct? At any rate, this is what I have in my "chambers".

In my 12 gallon Nanocube.

Chamber 1 - Filter Floss with Chemipure, Purigen and a MJ 600 below
Chamber 2 - LR Rock Rubble
Chamber 3 - Heater, Probes and a MJ 900

I agree with colinadam about the fuge in the tiny space available with a 12 gallon nanocube. I have undetectable nitrates without a fuge and I have zero algae problems. Sometimes I wish I did have some algae to help feed my Tail-Spot Blenny. IMO...in a nano, it’s all about water changes.

Chamber 1 - Poly Filter on top, Sea Gel bag on the bottom covering the hole that leads to chamber 2.

Chamber 2 - LR Rubble, Chaeto...Purigen bag covering the hole that leads to chamber 3.

Chamber 3 - Chunk of LR, heater, MJ 1200

Yeah I wish I had a bit more algae for my cleanup crew.

Weekly water changes do more good for your tank than anything else. I have only skipped 1 ever and got a cyano outbreak. Not a good thing.

With Nano's there is more than one way to set it up. It's just a matter of trial and error and doing what you want. If you want a fuge in back do it, if you want chemical media do that.

Chamber 1: Sponge filter plus bag of carbon. Limewood airstone and deflector.

Chamber 2: MJ1200, heater, LR rubble, and sponge for airstone overflow (kinda a low profile skimmer, difficult to describe).

nc2tarheels,

Adding an extra pump is used to increase the flow and help with the dead spots in my cube. Lots of folks do this and it helps out alot. You can either drill a hole in the back wall for the outlet (like the stock outlet) or some people just run the outlet over the top of the back wall.
