what do you treat sps with before putting it in your tank

the vet...they might give it to you they might not...if not you have to have papers showing your dog has been tested for heartworms...you can order online from the vet med services that are abound on the internet however

I'm really getting tired of treating new corals with Pro cure. It fades the colors horribly and in some cases causes RTN. I think I'm going to go back to using seachem reef dip

Tender loving care? I dont dip but I do inspect and nothing questionalbe goes into the tank. I once took something back to the LFS and told them to quarantine and if after two weeks nothing bad had happened I would come and retrieve.

That is odd, I have been using TMPCC for every coral that I get and I have not had any problem w/ corals rtn or fading in color. you might be letting it sit for to much time in the dip or using to much.

I also have never had a problem w/TMPCC. i treat at 125% strength for 15 minutes. then I intercept for 3 hrs before adding to tank. i suggest QT but I am not set up to do that. (in other words the wife has said one tank is enough).

They are essentially the same exact thing, both are forms of Iodine.

Agreed. I haven't really seen browning issues either jackson.

I used TMPCC and yes I am with Jackson SPS turns brown . its almost a week 1/2 and some of my sps are still brown. I just got a seachem reefdip from a fellow reefer and I think Im going to dip incoming corals and check if there will be any difference..... DONT YOU HATE TO SEE A BROWM SPS :( arrrgggggg

does anyone do a freshwater dip?
i know for zoos, i add lugols to ro/di water and dip for about 10 minutes. should sps dips be done in salt water or tank water?

SPS should be done in Saltwater....preferably in line with the tank they are going in's parameters....same temp, salinity, ALK all that good stuff if possible

a little 5 g or 10 g AG tank works great IMO...they are only 5 or 10 bucks too....or you could do it in a 5g bucket...i like the tanks so i can put powerheads in there(a maxi jet or something)

I have also read that many people on here have had color fade while using TMPCC. I, have never used it but ive read all the AEFW threads and many have had problems(Maybe from overdosing, not sure).

I treat with
Interceptor for Red bugs(1/4 tablet/5 gal saltwater/20 min dip)
Fluke tabs for AEFW's(4 tabs/5gal Salt water/20 minute dip)
and visually inspect for eggs.

If you havent tried Fluke tabs for AEFW, I encourage you to do so. You will not be sorry. Check out Melevs AEFW thread for pics/results.

No fresh water here George, corals no like :) .

I've been dipping all my acros in TMPCC in QT for the last 4 weeks to get rid of redbugs and AEFW. A few of the corals have browned out after the 3rd treatment at 2X the recommended dosage. My blue mille is still blue, my O tort is a faded blue still. But this is after 4 weeks of dipping and in a less desirable environment for them so i can't contribute all the browning to the TMPCC.

I dip everything in TMPCC, a few of my corals lost a little bit of color, but it always came back. Sometimes after a few days, others after about a month.
