What do you use for storing RODI water?

I'm currently using store bought 5 gallon jugs. I'd like to get a closable bucket with a lid that's 10 gallons or more. I just want something bigger so I don't have to check my RODI unit when it's filling a 5 gallon. With something larger I get more water for my effort.

What are you guys using?

Sounds like a good idea, and when you want to use the water? What do you use it scoop it out? What brand is brute, plastic?

I use Rubbermaid Brute trash cans for storage. To scoop the water out I use a plastic-handled 2 gal bucket.

I use store bought 7 gallon containers, from the camping section. Just curious, it takes an hour and a half for our RO/DI unit to make about 5 gallons -- how long does it take yours to fill up a 5 gallon bucket (since you said you don't like to have to check on it)?

Brute trashcans are made by RubberMaid. I bought a 50 gallon one with wheels, but ended up returning it because we decided it wasn't cost effective -- $60 for it at HD. We could buy 7 of the 7 gallon cans for $50 and have only 1 gallon less of total storage. Plus, we could store the 7 gallon cans wherever (they are stackable), and the 50 g Brute was going to need to stay outside (try convincing your wife you need to keep a 50 g trash can inside your house).

20g Brute here, really good size IMO. I think there are quite a few sizes, check them out at HD. Stick to the gray ones though, those are the food safe ones.

rubbermaid Brute 35 gallon can here.

To fill the can, I have a float valve in the can to stop it when it's full. BUt I also have a valve on the water line so that I can fill it when it is nearly empty. Tihs keeps the RO from having to cycle on and off repeatedly as the water level drops.

To get the water out, I cut out a hole near the bottom on the side and installed a bulkhead with a ball valve. The whole thing sits on a stand about two feet off of the floor.

Why would anyone scoup water out??

I use a power head or mag 5 for everything I do..
no scouping going on here, nor will there ever be.

Brute is a brand, by Rubbermaid. i just syphon out 2 liters at a time. twice a day for top offs, 15 gals for water changes.

44 gallon brute with auto-top-off, 1" drain on the bottom with a ball valve, tied to another 44 gallon brute for SW mixing, tied to another ball valve that's tied to a hose. Basically a few twists here and there of ball valves I can fill anything within reach of the hose with RO/DI or SW in a flash:)

Total cost minus the Brute cans... About $50 if you include the shut off kit:)

22 Gallon Rubbermaid totes. They are big enough to be convenient (my h20 changes are about 20 gallons) and small enough i can still push them when they are full. I can just throw in the salt, a heater, and powerhead and let them sit there.

I also installed a valve onto the bottom section of the rubbermaid trashcan I store my water in, and it works quite well. You can buy the valve in the plumbing section of Home Depot or Lowes. I drilled a small hole in the lid where the tube for the outgoing water from the RODI unit fits snugly into. Then I drilled a larger hole on the side of the can towards the bottom (a couple inches up) and installed the valve. Then I have some tubing connected to that. With some liberal caulking, everything was good to go. I fill the whole thing up about once every week or two and have a ready supply of RODI water for whatever I need.
