What do you use to dose your 2- Part?

Hey,

I have been dosing my homemade 2-part additives by hand, and am looking for a more automated way of doing it. I am looking for an inexpesive way to dose the additives, that will be accurate and relieable.

Anyone using the Kent Aquadose?

Thanks,

CJ

I've been looking into the same thing. Not so much for Ca, but for the Alk part. I would rather a more even dose throught the 24 hour period than the two doses per day I deliver now. I had a dosing pump running for a long time with my alk, and it proved to be one of the most problematic pieces of equipment.
You ask about the Kent Aquadose, I did a search on them the other day, and seems that people have a lot of problems. I guess you get what you pay for.

I found a lot of folks are using the IV Drip Sets with a small gadget that manually sets the drip rate. I saw someone selling them for about $10.

I'm just looking to dose approx 150ml per day of the alk. per day.

It is not what I would call a cheap solution but Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢ve been using LiterMeterIII for about year and a half now with good results. Once you set the amount of you want to dose it is pretty much maintenance free.

CJ, you might want to define 'inexpensive'. That term has taken on a new meaning for me since I entered this hobby.

Hef, how was the dosing pump problematic? I just acquired a Kangaroo, but haven't set it up yet. Hope it wasn't a mistake.

The problem for me comes from trying to dose Kalk through the dosing pump. That's not a good idea. Maybe I'll get it back out and see if I can set it up right just for the Alk Solution.

Thanks guys.

I am 16 and on a budget. I would buy anyhting for my reef, but the problem comes, why spend $150 on something that will add the additives automatically, when I could just add them manually and buy 3 new mini colonies of SPS. I guees I am looking to spend $50 or so.

for the medical dosing pumps, can you set how much you want for it to dose? Say 7.5 mL of Ca, and 8 mL of Alk....

Hef- do you have a link to those Iv drip sets?

Thanks,

CJ

I use this...I got it on eBay. Works great...is completely silent, and is very accurate on dosing exact amounts of Kent CB.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for that? It looks like something that may work for me...if its the right price.

This thread gave me the ambition to go out to the garage, get my retired Dosing Pump, and clean it up. I still have all the parts, tubes and such, got it running in about an hour.

Innovative Aquatics is a great source for these things. They refurbish Hospital Dosing Pumps for the Reef Community. That's where mine came from, they sell all the tubing, and they can answer lots of questions.

I will be dosing my Alk Solution starting tomorrow morning.

CJ, they do sell Dual Dosing Pumps for Two Products. You cannot mix the two so you would need to dose them seperately.
Also you ask if you can dose 7.5 ml of a product. The way you would do this, is mix the 7.5ml into say a quart of water, and then dose the quart througout the day. I will be dosing about 100ml per hour in order to dose 150ml total Alk Solution. I need a container that will hold 2400 ml of water, that's about 2 1/2 quarts, I might slow down the dose so I can use a smaller container.

Thanks Hef.

I might just have to keep dosing by hand.......it seems pretty confusing to dilute the solution....and the pumps aren't as inexpensive as I thought.

I am going to search Ebay, though
