what does fresh water kill on LR?

I picked up some LR from someone locally that had nuisance algae(valonia and some other kind) and majano problems. The rock was all dead when I bought it. (had been out of water for several weeks). I’ve been “curing” it in just some fresh RO water with circulation for the past month. I changed out the water about 4 times and just removed the rock last night since no ammonia levels or nitrite levels were present anymore and the stink was gone. My question comes from the fact that some of the rocks still have remnants of valonia and even the majanos look like they’re just closed up and ready to repopulate. Is it possible for either of these things to reproduce after being in fresh water for 1 month?

Amazing, why won't life's most bothersome things die as easily as the nice things do?
The thing to do is to pick or scrub them off the rocks. If they are alive they won't be after that, and if they are dead that's some decomposition you would do well to avoid.

barbra, yes, I ended up scrubbing off all that I could see and then rinsing again. I'm only concerned about what I can't see in the crevices. Do you know if caulerpa or similar species can survive long term in fresh water (or their spores?) I hate to go through all this trouble and then end up with more work later.
