What does lps stand for?

large polyp stony, 'fluffy' stony coral with a lot of tissue, as opposed to sps, the colored sticks, eg.

In general it means moderate lighting and moderate flow, but in practice that varies greatly.

Not scientific, to science, the stony corals are all classed as stony corals. We as hobbyists have separated it by large and small, even though species like leptastrea, leptoseris, lithophyllon, etc. blur the lines.

not to mention cyphastrea sometimes. Some species show a lot of flesh and some do not
