A lot of the urchins I've seen munch it down. Not sure you'll find that quick fix that easy though. Razors are about the only consistent coralline munchers.

Yep, razors or a real strong magnet cleaner (like a Hammerhead) does the job better than a sea urchin. My urchin seems to favor the coralline on rocks over those on the front glass.

well, at least its Adam's tank that has the coralline on the front three glass panels (corner tank).

my hair algae is in remission (on the rocks, but not on the back glass or in the overflow), which only took about 200 gallons of water changes, an hour of manual removal, installing and changing the gfo three times, and reducing feedings by 2/3rds!

are we having fun yet?!

I saw a large sea hare (Dolabella auricularia) munching on hair algae at The Aquarium Shop on Monday. He may not be a bad one to have if you can safe guard your powerhead.

On the other hand, if your algae is mainly on the glass surface, you might be able to just scrape them off with a razor blade. It is good to have a small tubing (1/4" ID) ready to siphon out loosened hair algae as you go (keep the siphon going but pinch the inlet side closed with your fingers.)

I just take a new razor blade to my glass once a month or so.. You can get little plastic holders in the paint department at lowes HD or walmart so the razor is easier to hold. Kent scrapers work good for hard to reach spots, But nothing beats a Sharp Razor.
