what eats turf algae?

what critters will eat the redish brown turf algae? i bought some live rock from someone and it had some on it... now it is spreading.... i dont want to take the rock out and "cook" it..... i am hoping there is an invert out there that loves the stuff ...

I think some have had success with large turbo snails.

Try the larger Mexican Turbo Snails. They are work horses and will eat many kinds of algae. I was looking for something to clean up a plant called Dead Man Fingers that had spread all over my tank and got lucky with these. They are the only thing I have found that will touch it.

I've not had the best luck with the turbos. they do eat it, but they don't polish the rock. it is short and under control though. BTW, don't try cooking your rock as that won't kill the algae completely - it comes right back. Sun bake it and reseed is the only way to remove. good luck.
